What about a driver's license?

I haven't had to do this yet, but if you want to rent a car in Spain, or any other country that isn't your homeland,. do they honor your existing driver's license, or do you have to get one in Spain?

What about international licenses. Are they fairly easy to get?

An International Driving Permit is fairly easy to get in the States. You need to apply to either the American Auto Association (AAA) or National Auto Club. You must be at least 18 years of age, present two passport sized photos, and your valid US Driver's license and generally it costs under $20. When my daughter recently visited Italy, her friend who accompanied her got his International Driving Permit with no trouble at all.
